The glove was worn during the opening of the concert and was intended for reuse later in the show. Shortly before the iconic “Billie Jean” performance, the glove sustained damage to the palm-side slit during an energetic movement, rendering it unusable. As a result, Michael Jackson requested an immediate replacement backstage. Upon receiving the new glove, he removed this original and personally tossed it to an accredited press photographer backstage, making this a unique, first-hand obtained stage-worn artifact.
