  5. The Beatles Buxton Pavilion Ballroom Concert Poster 6 April 1963

An exceptionally rare original concert poster promoting The Beatles and The Trixons at the Pavilion Ballroom, Buxton, on Saturday 6 April 1963. Issued at the height of the group’s breakthrough to national prominence following the success of “Please, Please Me,” the poster captures a defining early moment of Beatlemania. Contemporary press photographs from this very engagement document scenes of fans fainting and being carried from the venue while the band performed, underscoring the cultural intensity surrounding the event.

Printed in bold red and blue letterpress on cream stock with a distinctive green geometric border, the design features prominent “No. 1 Hit Parade Stars” billing above the large BEATLES headline, with admission priced at 6/-. The poster measures 20 x 30 inches (50.8 x 76.2 cm).

The example has undergone professional restoration, fully supported by vendor-provided receipts. Visible condition characteristics include overall creasing, fold lines, restored losses to the lower and corner sections, historic tape marks, and areas of staining. The poster has been backed onto rice paper for structural support and long-term preservation; this backing may be professionally removed at the buyer’s discretion.

Provenance: Originally from the collection of Mr Dennis Brooke-Auty, Entertainment Manager at the Pavilion Gardens, accompanied by a signed Letter of Provenance from his son dated 2001. Subsequently acquired by Alan Goldsmith (referenced in the Letter of Provenance), and later purchased by the current vendor, with detailed email correspondence documenting the October 2002 transaction.

A museum-calibre survival from the earliest phase of The Beatles’ touring history, and quite possibly the only extant example of this landmark provincial concert poster.
